Hairline restoration with scalp micropigmentation (SMP or fake hair tattoo) is a popular and effective non-surgical procedure designed to create the appearance of a fuller hairline. This technique creates the illusion of a denser hairline and helps to fill in any areas of thinning or baldness.
SMP is designed to replicate the look of short, buzzed hair, providing a realistic and seamless appearance that blends well with your existing hair.
Unlike hair transplant surgeries, SMP is non-invasive and typically involves minimal downtime. Many clients can return to their regular activities shortly after the procedure.
We are finding a greater interest from ladies regarding scalp micropigmentation procedures
Although hair loss is more noticeable in men, women are also prone to conditions that cause hair loss. They’re just better at hiding it. Most women are concerned about the lack of density of their hair.
Thinning can be due to many factors, for example, alopecia, hormone displacement or vitamin deficiency after childbirth and menopause, or simply years of pulling the hair into a ponytail (Traction Trauma Alopecia).
Using the scalp micropigmentation, also known as a hair tattoo, technique, our 40 shade colour system, and semi permanent pigments, we can find the proper density to add a visual improvement in the specified area.
To create density, tiny dots of the pigment are deposited between the active hairs; this creates shading on the scalp that to the untrained eye, will be unnoticeable.
Scalp scarring is common and usually caused by accident on surgery such as hair transplants. Some people strongly dislike the look of scarring, no matter the size, especially when they have paid for a service and are left with a large scar on the side or back of their head. There are few options for scar camouflage, but we have a great solution
Pigment.lab is one of the UK’s leading Scalp micropigmentation Studios, is able to delicately deposit pigment into scar tissue and the surrounding area amongst the hair to help blend out and diminish the visibility of the scarring. By accurately matching colour and creating the look of follicles inside the scar, you can expect you scar camouflaged
Typically, SMP lasts anywhere from 2 to three years, depending on factors such as skin type, lifestyle, and aftercare. Touch-up sessions may be needed to maintain the desired color and appearance
We make sure the treatment is comfortable for you. Topical anesthetic is used to minimize discomfort during the procedure. While some clients may experience slight discomfort, it is generally well-tolerated
NO alcohol or caffeine for 24 hours before the treatment. NO skincare product containing retinal, AHA, vitamins A, C and E agents for 1-2 weeks before treatment. STOP taking fish oil tablets (if you do) the moment you schedule your eyebrow tattoo appointment, garlic and herbal teas to avoid blood thinning. Do not tan two weeks prior or have a sunburned face. Do not have any type of facial/peel 2 weeks prior to treatment. Discontinue Vitamin A/Retinol products one month prior to treatment (these treatments thin the skin considerably). Do not work out the day of the procedure (excessive oils in the skin can prevent the pigment from retaining). Do not have Botox 3 weeks prior (can affect symmetry). Please purchase cold sore cream as the procedure can cause cold sore breakouts. To Minimise Discomfort: Try to get a good night's sleep before your treatment. This will help you relax and make the treatment more comfortable. Drink lots of water- before and during the session – this allows the skin to accept the ink more easily, without thinning the blood. On the day: Have a good breakfast on the day of your treatment, this increases your stamina as treatments like Permanent Makeup burn a lot of calories. Paracetamol reduces pain and helps reduce inflammation so if you're worried take two before or after your treatment. Antihistamine helps to reduce swelling during the procedure. Pigment stains – we use protective hair nets and cover you and all our equipment and couch in tissue and protective film but occasionally tiny droplets of pigment could splash on clothing and may stain, we recommend wearing dark tops where possible. Due to the equipment we use and contaminated waste we don't allow children and pets in my treatment room
SMP is suitable for individuals experiencing hair loss, thinning hair, receding hairlines, or those who want to conceal scars from previous hair transplant surgeries. Both men and women can benefit from this procedure
Aftercare is crucial for optimal healing and longevity of the results. It typically involves avoiding sun exposure, excessive sweating, and harsh hair products for a few days. Your technician will provide specific aftercare instructions
It's recommended to avoid swimming and intense exercise for at least a week after the procedure to allow the scalp to heal properly
Like all tattoos, SMP pigments can fade over time due to sun exposure, skin type, and lifestyle factors. Regular touch-ups can help maintain the vibrancy of the results
While SMP is a semi-permanent solution, removing the pigment is not easy. If you decide to stop SMP, the pigments will gradually fade over time, but complete removal may require laser treatments
After the procedure, the scalp may appear swollen and pigment look darker. This is normal and typically subsides within a few days. The color will soften as the lips heal, usually taking about 4 weeks for full healing
Aftercare is crucial for optimal results:
Gently cleanse the treated area with a mild, fragrance-free cleanser.
For the first few days, keep the area dry and avoid getting it wet. This includes avoiding swimming, sauna, and excessive sweating.
Avoid touching, scratching, or picking at the treated area to prevent irritation or infection.
Apply any aftercare ointment or healing balm provided by your technician. Often, a thin layer is advised to keep the area moisturized.
Avoid sun exposure and swimming for the first 4 weeks.
Protect the treated area from direct sunlight. Wear a wide-brimmed hat or use a physical sunscreen once healed, as sun exposure can fade the pigments.
Avoid exfoliating products, scrubs, or procedures in the area for at least 4-6 weeks post-treatment, as they can cause fading and irritation.
Minimize strenuous activities and excessive sweating for the first week to allow the area to heal properly.
Keep an eye out for any unusual symptoms such as excessive redness, swelling, or discharge. If you notice any signs of infection, contact your technician or a healthcare provider immediately.
Schedule any recommended follow-up or touch-up appointments as advised by your technician, usually 4-6 weeks after the initial procedure.
As with any cosmetic procedure, there are some risks, including infection, herpes simplex breakout
